Checking Out The Mermaid Gift Shop in Kissimmee Florida

If you’re a frugal traveler like me, you probably enjoy visiting souvenir stores where you can get discounted theme park merchandise — especially at Walt Disney World where park merchandise prices are skyrocketing. Kissimmee offers a few great discount souvenir shops just minutes from Disney World. Today I’ll be sharing my experience and review off The Mermaid Gift Shop on Irlo Bronson Highway!

During my rigorous planning for my family’s recent Disney trip, I was determined to add some destinations to our To Do List that were….off the beaten path. I had seen several YouTube videos from Adam the Woo and The Tim Tracker where they visited this particular store, and I was immediately intrigued. Multiple floors with misprinted Disney and Orlando shirts, outdated Disney park plush toys, and unique keychains and magnets were enough to make me plan an entire afternoon around visiting The Mermaid Gift Shop.

Location and Theming

Our goal for this Disney trip was to explore new things we hadn’t seen, while also enjoying the 50th Celebration of Magic Kingdom without breaking the bank. We started our trip by dropping our luggage off at our Pop Century Resort room, and then fetched an Uber to take us to The Mermaid Gift Shop. (We wanted to see what awesome merch we could find for cheap before being enticed by the gift shops in the actual Disney parks). The Uber ride took less than 10 minutes, so both the time and cost commitments were minimal. Luckily, we had planned to visit some other stores within walking distance of the souvenir store, so it was well worth the $10. As I mentioned above, The Mermaid Gift Shop is located on Irlo Bronson Highway in Kissimmee, and is situated next to another discount Disney store and is across the street from Walmart if you need to pick up any essentials (we stopped at Walmart to pick up snacks and fresh fruit for the week so we would have cheap, healthy eating options while in the parks).

As the name implies, The Mermaid Gift Shop is adorned with a larger-than-life mermaid. Honestly, it’s a combination of fascinating and creepy; a must see in person attraction. The inside doesn’t really have any mermaid or sea life theming, it’s an organized and plain interior decorating. You can check out my YouTube video to see some footage of the multi-level store.

Souvenirs

There are a wide range of souvenirs to choose from at this store. From discounted Disney plush toys to Florida themed coffee mugs to keychains to children’s clothes to misprinted adult t-shirts, and much more! The most interesting item I found was a small painted alligator head. The best deal I found was $2 shirts that had random blue splotches (maybe an issue with the printing machine?). At the end of my visit here, I spent about $30 on t-shirts, magnets, and keychains to commemorate my inaugural Mermaid Gift Shop visit.

Review

I definitely recommend taking a trip here on your arrival day to Orlando or on one of your non-park days (you are scheduling rest days for your Disney trip, right?). You’ll find a mixture of Disney and Orlando items that are sure to make the kids happy. Plus, it’s a fun place to check out!
